Let me introduce myself! My name is Luca Silvestre, I’m 36 years old, and I work as a personal academic tutor. After earning my high school diploma from a liceo scientifico, I undertook a university path in engineering at the Polytechnic University of Milan, obtaining a laurea specialistica in Civil Engineering with Geotechnical specialism. My passion for teaching and study support grew from my desire to communicate both the
knowledge and abilities that are needed to solve problems that may seem insurmountable. My
teaching method is the fruit of my own experience, which has allowed me to understand how each individual has a completely different way of approaching his or her studies, from comprehension to the analysis of problems. Each of us possesses personal characteristics and cognitive differences that create a unique process through which we approach the study of scientific subjects. In an educational curriculum that is standardized for the masses, some students still find
themselves in difficulty. As an alternative, a different approach needs to be designed, on the basis of the haracteristics and difficulties of each young person. In this way, each student’s intellectual resources may be maximized, thus obtaining optimal results even where previously, it seemed impossible. By modifying the way in which a student comprehends and explains a subject, we can interrupt the vicious cycle of “unsuccess,” thus helping young people to experience satisfaction and gratification from the results they have achieved. For me, teaching means working side-by-side with youth in the process of maturation and constructing their own futures. Studying includes a personalized process that is adapted to each pupil, with a serious consideration of the person and careful attention to his or her potential and distinctive personal characteristics. The tutor’s relationship with parents is also fundamental because they occupy the most important formative role. I offer to parents, during a period of time that is explicitly set aside for them, the opportunity to communicate about their child’s process, in order to better understand the situation and innovate together the customized solutions and instruments for each pupil. From 2014 to today For students from international schools: Tutoring and support delivered in English to middle and high school students. Preparation for International Baccalaureate (IB) exams and other requirements. Support in the preparation of scientific and mathematical content for the SAT/ACT tests and IGCSE exams. Enhancement of scientific subjects (IB Math Studies, Standard and Higher Level Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics). Study support for students who wish to prepare their knowledge of scientific subjects, in light of future admission to international boarding schools, colleges and universities. For university students: Study support and exam preparation for students of the Polytechnic University of Milan, Bocconi University, University of Milan (State University and Bicocca campuses), particularly for examinations in statistics, mathematical analysis, chemistry and
physics. For liceo and Italian high school students: Preparation for the admissions test at the Polytechnic University of Milan and the Bocconi University. Preparation and study support for the Esame di Stato and the high school thesis. Remedial lessons for school subjects not passed. Study support
for students with learning differences and disabilities, enhancement of cognitive abilities, and the organization of personalized study plans. For middle school students: Study support and tutoring for homework, with focus on the construction of adequate, effective study methods. Study support for students with learning differences and disabilities, preparation of individualized study plans.
